Gordon Trucking, Inc. is pleased to announce Ernest (Ernie) Sire as its January Driver of the Month.

While driving for GTI, Ernie put up some impressive numbers in January.  His miles per gallon were at 7.47, his idle time below 1 percent and Ernie maintained a perfect service record for the company.

Ernie has been with GTI since 2003 and is currently driving for the Georgia Pacific Dedicated Fleet.  His Fleet Manager, Casey Kuper said Ernie is an act to follow.

Alexandria, Va. - Gordon Trucking, Inc. was named a top 20 national carrier to drive for by the Truckload Carriers Association.

An official announcement was released on the TCA Web site on Jan 27.  As stated on the announcement, months of nominations, interviews and scoring determined these top trucking companies that provide the best workplace experience for professional truck drivers. 

A variety of factors were used in the interviews and scoring to determine the top 20 including work environment, pay, benefits, turnover and fleet-wide safety.

For the third-straight year, Gordon Trucking, Inc. has been named the safest U.S. based trucking company in its division by the Truckload Carriers Association.

The divisional winners were announced Jan 30 on TCA’s official Web site and an official release came out of their headquarters in Alexandria, Va.

Hope everyone had a great and safe Holiday! It is now 2012 and maybe some of you have made resolutions to get out and exercise a little more, or maybe to spend more time with your family.

You may also just be thinking “when will this winter weather end?”  It would be nice to just head south for the winter but freight doesn’t always give us that luxury.  Just when we think we are heading for clearer skies we get turned around by a “hot” load that sends us back into the cold.  Here are some “Stay Safe” tips to get you through the winter chill.

Gordon Trucking and Valley Freightliner’s Blue Heart Committee took part in the group’s 25^th annual Share the Joy event this December, making the holiday season brighter for more than 140 children.

Employees and friends of both companies gave gifts of food, clothing and toys to children and families in need throughout our neighboring communities in Wash., Ore., Calif. and Ind.

For years, the mantra in the trucking industry is that it needs to change significantly in order to provide enough trucking capacity to move all the freight.  And while “the end of the world is near” mentality has probably been overblown, we can finally see the seeds of significant change being sewn.

If you are a shipper that routes freight within the state of California you should be aware of the requirements for equipment to meet California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations next year and how enforcement on compliance will change over the next few years.

In the years before the recent US Environmental Protection Agency mandates, truck replacement for motor carriers yielded benefits.  Newer model trucks had the latest technological improvements, which led to increased engine life, better fuel economy, predictable operating costs, and the like.  Those were the good old days.

Gordon Trucking has teamed up with The Home Depot Foundation and Habitat for Humanity to help build a new home in Atlanta, GA.  The home is expected to be completed this week and will provide shelter for a grateful single mother and her three sons. The house is approximately 1500 square feet and will have taken 6-7 days to build.

September 11-17, 2011 the nation celebrated Driver Appreciation week.  At Gordon Trucking, we took this opportunity to spend a week dedicated specifically to thanking our drivers for their hard work.  We fired up the BBQ at our terminals and spent the week appreciating the drivers with good food, raffles, t-shirts, giveaways, and some time for our non-driving staff to get to know the drivers better.
