Share the Joy delivers to over 120 children this holiday season

Gordon Trucking and Valley Freightliner’s Blue Heart Giving helped more than 40 families and over 120 children in need this holiday season with its annual Share the Joy event.

In Share the Joy’s 27th consecutive year, participants from the Pacific, Albany, Medford, Lathrop, and Indianapolis terminals lend a hand to struggling families with gifts of food, clothing and toys.  

Walt Gresham honored as GTI’s November Driver of the Month

Walt has been driving just over four years with almost all of that time with GTI after a short stint with Swift.  Before that, he worked in the lumber mills near Cascadia, Oregon for over 11 years.  Walt is part of the GP linehaul fleet which runs primarily from Northern Oregon into Southern California mostly hauling loads for Georgia Pacific.  Walt occasionally makes his way into the Mountain States with loads to such places as Utah and Colorado. His strengths include being depended upon to deliver his loads safely and on time.  Walt is well aware of the trucking situations that come up and communicates effectively with his Driver Manager.

Gordon Trucking and Heartland Express combine terminals in Phoenix

Gordon Trucking and Heartland Express have combined their operations in Phoenix.  GTI had previously operated a leased terminal in Phoenix for approximately 12 years while Heartland built a new terminal a few years ago.  It was an easy decision to bring everyone together into the Heartland terminal.

Gordon Trucking and Heartland Express held a driver welcome event on Thursday, December 12th and Friday, December 13th.  The event included over 150 attendees from Heartland Express and GTI including both drivers and office staff.  Breakfast and lunch were served and everyone had a chance to ask questions, share stories, and talk about the future.

Gordon Trucking delivers wreaths in remembrance of fallen soldiers

For the second year running, Gordon Trucking volunteered to haul wreaths in commemoration of fallen heroes for Wreaths Across America (WAA).  Each holiday season, WAA enlists a fleet of trucks to transport thousands of fresh wreaths from Columbia Falls, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery and other military memorial sites. Gordon’s efforts should prove instrumental in this undertaking, which coordinates the dedicated service of over 100,000 volunteers to decorate the graves of our country’s veterans with wreaths.

Salvador Ramirez honored as GTI’s October Driver of the Month

Salvador has been with GTI for two years now.  His only profession has been being a driver and began his career in 1980.  He is part of the SLC local fleet and drives as far south as El Centro, all L.A. proper, and as far north as Avenal, California when needed.   Sal can be counted on to deliver freight in a professional manner safely and on time.  He communicates with his Driver Manager regularly throughout the day.

For the month of October, Sal averaged 7.38 miles per gallon, with zero service failures and an idle time of 11.52, but typically averages under 8 MPG for this year. He has taken 10 safety training classes within the past year and had zero over speed instances for the month of October.

Pacific, Washington (November 11, 2013) – Gordon Trucking has sold 100% of its stock and certain associated assets to Heartland Express, Inc. (“Heartland”) (Nasdaq: HTLD) of North Liberty Iowa.  With combined total revenue of approximately $1 billion and a terminal network spanning from Washington to Florida and from Pennsylvania to Southern California, Gordon Trucking estimates the combined companies will operate the fifth largest asset-based truckload fleet in North America.  Steve and Scott Gordon have joined Heartland’s management team.  Larry and Virginia Gordon will retire after 50 years of building GTI, and Larry Gordon has joined Heartland’s Board of Directors.  Gordon Trucking will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Heartland Express while a realistic transition plan is defined and the best practices of the two companies are evaluated.

Gordon Trucking Selected as CHEP Dedicated Provider of the Year

CHEP, a global leader in pallet and container pooling services, recently recognized Gordon Trucking with the 2013 Dedicated Provider of the Year Award at their carrier symposium held in Orlando. 

Erik Mathews, CHEP transportation analyst, said, “This particular partner has consistently averaged on-time performance of 98 percent and load tender acceptance of 97 percent.  GTI has consistently been one of our best performing carriers in regards to asset utilization and their pro-active communication helps mitigate costs to CHEP and improves fleet efficiencies.  Additionally, their fleet manager, Kari Huggins, truly exemplifies what it means to partner with CHEP.  Her knowledge of our customer base and dedication is second to none and their success is largely in part to her expertise. Joseph Gochanour receives GTI’s September Driver of the Month Award

Joseph has been with GTI for four years now, he started in September 2009.  Joseph runs everywhere on one of our US, over-the-road fleets and his Driver Manager is Daniel McClure. Joseph says, “I like to plan my day out so that I know exactly where I’m going to end up.  I also make a plan B in case plan A doesn’t work out.” 

Joseph’s strengths are good communication, hard work, and a tremendous understanding of customer service and productivity. Joseph likes to fish in his free time.  He also enjoys other outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.  Prior to coming to work with GTI, Joseph was a butcher for 25 years and owned his own meat shop in Arizona. 

Trainer Academy certifies five new drivers as GTI Driver Trainers

Five Gordon Trucking drivers earned a Certified Driver Trainer designation at GTI’s Trainer Academy last month in Lathrop, California.

Ron Brown, Scott Lindsey, Matthew Sanders, Michael Willen and Brian Wright qualified for the elite distinction following nearly a week of classes, demonstrations and driving assessments.  Their designation brings the number of Gordon drivers currently certified as Driver Trainers to nearly 40.

Brown, of Boise, ID, drives for the US/Canadian fleet.  Lindsey, of Kelso, WA, and a 24-year veteran of GTI, runs on the Northwest regional fleet.   Sanders, of Colorado Springs, CO; and Wright, of Medford, OR, are drivers with the Temperature Control division.  Willen, of Bloomington, IN, is a local driver operating out of the Indianapolis terminal.

Gordon Trucking honored with ATA's Safest U.S. Fleet Award

Gordon Trucking was recognized as the American Trucking Associations’ Safest U.S. Fleet for 2012.  The honor was presented to Scott Manthey Vice President of Safety and Compliance on September 26th at the ATA’s Safety and H.R. National Conference and Exhibition in Reno, Nevada.

The ATA’s Safety Management Council Safe Fleet award was in the category of General Commodities Truckload/Line-Haul over 100 Million Miles.  The award recognizes carriers with the lowest DOT reportable accident ratings and consists of an extremely significant audit process around fleet safety.
