GTI is Oregon’s safest fleet in its division for second straight year

For the second consecutive year, Gordon Trucking, Inc. has been awarded the safest large carrier fleet in Oregon by Great West Casualty and the Oregon Trucking Association.

The honor was presented to Scott Manthey, vice president of safety and Laura Poteet, regional risk manager on April 19 at the Oregon Safe Carrier awards in Lincoln City, Ore.

In order to be considered a top safety carrier in Oregon, trucking companies are measured by their Department of Transportation accident ratio per million miles driven in the state.  Gordon Trucking is proud to have earned first place in this criteria.

Gordon Trucking hosts grand opening event in Pontoon Beach

Gordon Trucking, Inc. opened the doors to its new fully operational terminal in Pontoon Beach, Ill for a grand opening celebration that included the official ribbon cutting for the property on Thursday, April 4.

The event featured members of GTI’s leadership team from our Pacific, Green Bay and Indianapolis terminals and included lunch to all in attendance.  Local community representatives at the event included Rosemarie Brown – executive director of the Southwestern Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Matt Hart – director of the Illinois Trucking Association and John Herzog – director of Madison County economic development.  Several of GTI’s customers and vendors were also in attendance.

The newly renovated terminal spans eight total acres and will serve local, regional and long haul fleets for various GTI divisions.  For driving associates, new amenities include a full-service laundry room, free Wi-Fi internet access, an on-site Transflo station and a driver exclusive lounge with private showers.



GTI receives multiple California safety awards

Gordon Trucking, Inc. was presented with two safety awards from the California Trucking Association on April 4 at the Grand Sheraton in Sacramento, Calif.

GTI’s Northern California Fleet that runs primarily between northern and southern California was awarded first place for local fleets in the 2-4 million miles category and Gordon Trucking as a whole, received third place in the truckload over 7 million miles division.

The CTA safety awards program judges trucking companies on specific safety performance dimensions including accident frequency, personnel and hiring systems, documented safety policies and procedures, driver-safety training, internal accident handling procedures and participation in the association’s safety activities.

Robert Bucan receives GTI’s March Driver of the Month Award

Gordon Trucking, Inc. is excited to honor Robert “Bob” Bucan as its Driver of the Month for March.

Bob has been with Gordon Trucking for more than 12 years and currently drives for the Georgia Pacific / Kellogg’s dedicated fleet that runs primarily through Wash., Ore. and Calif.


In March, Bob drove more than 10,500 miles without any service issues.  Also during the month, he averaged seven miles per gallon, had zero over speed and maintained a zero percent idle time.

Like previous Driver of the Month recipients, Bob will receive $250 cash, a truck wash, a $50 gift certificate to the company store and will have his name posted on the Driver of Month company plaque.




Michael Black named Professional Truck Driver of the Year

Gordon Trucking, Inc. is excited to announce Michael Black as its first ever Driver of the Year recipient.  The prestigious title was declared Saturday at the company’s annual business meeting held at the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn, Wash.

Mike joined the other 11 Driver of the Year finalists from across the country in a two day celebration that included lunch with GTI’s Executive team at the company’s headquarters in Pacific.

In order to be named a finalist, a solo or team company driver had to meet some remarkable goals set by GTI that include a perfect service record, no preventable incidents, a CSA score of zero and no tickets or violations for the entire year.  All finalists were in attendance at the meeting Saturday when Mike’s name was drawn.

The Truckload Carriers Association Company Driver of the Year is now the proud owner of a brand new Dodge Ram.

The fully-loaded diesel truck was delivered by Car Pro’s Nick Phillips to Dan and his family at Gordon Trucking headquarters in Pacific, Wash. on March 14.

Among the 3.5 million commercial truck drivers in the U.S., Dan stands out as the number one company driver out on the road as he closes in on 3 million accident free miles with Gordon Trucking.

GTI’s Daniel Poorman named TCA’s Company Truck Driver of the Year

  
  
  
2012 TCA Driver of the Year

LAS VEGAS - Gordon Trucking, Inc. company driver Daniel Poorman was named Company Truck Driver of the Year by the Truckload Carriers Association at their 2013 Annual Convention on Tuesday, March 5.

Dan has been with GTI since 1992 and has amassed more than 2.75 million accident free miles during his career.  His father, Edward “Bud” Poorman also drove for GTI including a time period when the company was called Gordon Fast Freight.  Bud, his wife Cleora and Dan’s wife Vanessa were all in attendance at the event to see Dan accept this prestigious honor.

The Driver of the Year contest, sponsored by Cummins Inc. and Chevron Delo, in conjunction with Randall-Reilly publishing, recognizes top company drivers and owner operators in the U.S. and Canada who provide reliable and safe truck transportation in moving the nation’s goods.  Dan was selected from three finalists as the overall winner in North America.  In the U.S. alone, there are more than 3.5 million commercial truck drivers.

27 Midwest drivers qualify for Wisconsin Motor Carrier Achievement

  
  
  
WMCA Presidents Club Award

Gordon Trucking, Inc. is pleased to announce that 27 of its professional truck driving associates joined or renewed their membership in the Wisconsin Motor Carrier’s President’s Safe Driver Club on March 9 in De Pere, Wis.

Established in 1996 by the Wisconsin Council of Safety Supervisors, the PSDC was created to recognize safe professional truck drivers that work for members of the Wisconsin Motor Carrier Association.

To be eligible for the honor, a driver must be a full-time company driver or permanent leased operator who lives and drives in Wisconsin, or is dispatched from a terminal within the state.  Since 2005, GTI has had a fully operating terminal in Green Bay, Wis. where a majority of these outstanding drivers call their home terminal.

Joe Wright honored as GTI’s February Driver of the Month

Gordon Trucking, Inc. is excited to recognize Joe Wright as its February Driver of the Month.

Joe has been with GTI since 2001 and currently runs on the Temperature Controlled fleet that travels throughout the United States.  A resident of Lewiston, Idaho and tenured professional truck driver, Joe has driven for various fleets at GTI and is well-known throughout the company.

In February, Joe broke in his brand new truck and averaged 6.6 miles per gallon with less than one percent idle time and with no incidents or service issues.  Joe also posted a CSA score of zero which is very impressive.

Joe’s Pacific based fleet manager, Travis Gordon said Joe has a great attitude and always shows a willingness to work in whatever way he can to help out the company.





GTI is safest U.S. Carrier in its division four years running

For the fourth consecutive year, Gordon Trucking, Inc. has been named the safest U.S. based trucking company in its division by the Truckload Carriers Association.

The divisional winners were announced Feb. 21 on the TCA Web site in an official press release out of Alexandria, Va.  Celebrating its 37th year, the National Fleet Safety Awards recognize trucking companies that demonstrate a superior commitment to safety and accident reduction.

Scoring in the 100 million or more miles driven per year division, GTI will compete against winners of the 25 – 50 million miles per year and 50-100 million miles per year for the grand prize award.
