Blue Heart brings holiday cheer to more than 100 local children
Gordon Trucking and Valley Freightliner’s Blue Heart Committee helped more than 30 local families in need this holiday season it its annual Share the Joy event.
In Share the Joy’s 24th consecutive year, volunteers from the Pacific, Medford and Modesto terminals lend a hand to struggling families with gifts of food, clothing and toys.
In Pacific, Gordon Trucking Employee Diego Diaz dressed as Santa and handed out toys to local children.
“The kids were very happy,” said Diaz. “Their smiles were contagious.”
Working as Santa’s little helpers, GTI Medford Employees Wade Lowe and Mike Jackson assisted Terminal Maintenance Manager, Kevin Skinner who played Kris Cringle.
“It was actually very fun,” said Lowe. “Our costumes brought in a few strange looks but we also got a lot of smiles. The children were thrilled and that’s all that mattered.”
The spirit of giving was most evident in Modesto where a young child asked Santa (and Gordon Trucking Employee, Jeff Smith) that he bring his mother flowers for Christmas.
“When he saw Santa he lit up,” said Smith. “I told him that was a good deed and Santa would be happy to bring his mom flowers.”
Share the Joy will continue to grow in 2011 as Blue Heart focuses on the event’s 25th anniversary.
