Gordon Trucking Celebrates Driver Appreciation Week 2011

Driver Appreciation Week in PacificSeptember 11-17, 2011 the nation celebrated Driver Appreciation week.  At Gordon Trucking, we took this opportunity to spend a week dedicated specifically to thanking our drivers for their hard work.  We fired up the BBQ at our terminals and spent the week appreciating the drivers with good food, raffles, t-shirts, giveaways, and some time for our non-driving staff to get to know the drivers better.

It was a great week and here are highlights from some of the terminals:

  • Indianapolis, IN terminal had about 150 drivers stop in for cook outs and catered lunches.
  • Pontoon Beach, IL, a new GTI location, had about 45 drivers throughout the week.
  • Medford, OR had 120 drivers sign in and they enjoyed pulled pork and roast beef sandwiches as well as a free haircut.
  • Rancho Cucamonga, CA was busy all week with over 400 drivers attending.  Subway sandwiches, fried chicken and a taco bar were on the menu.  We raffled off gift cards and held an air pressure gauge contest.
  • Pacific, WA  had over 250 drivers stop by the corporate headquarters and enjoy the BBQ, Subway sandwiches, and pizza while the office employees scrubbed the bugs off their trucks.  Newly hired drivers in orientation preparing to start their truck driving jobs were able to come down on their breaks and meet our veteran drivers.

In total, over 1600 of our driving professionals were able to stop in to a terminal and take a break to be appreciated, while office associates washed over 80 trucks.

Professional truck drivers are the people that ensure you get the products you need.  They haul everything from the clothes on your back to the medicine you take when your back hurts.  They drive their trucks through all weather conditions, through all traffic conditions, and professionally, with courtesy for other motorists that is not always reciprocated.  So for all the times we took for granted just how important our driving force is, this week was our resounding THANK YOU to all of the truck drivers on the road, not only at Gordon Trucking, but across the nation.

Really wish that I could have been out there washing the trucks and shaking hands. (And don't forget about the food!!). I am working graveyard and that can make daytime activities difficult but would like every driver out there to know that we appreciate you!! We try to make it driver appreciation week every week by giving drivers the respect and gratitude they deserve. Thanks for all your hard work.

I agree 110%. Driver appreciation should be on a daily basis not a once a year (Driver Appreciation Week). As a DM for the Heavy Haul Division in Clackamas, OR, I appreciate each of the drivers out there. Thank you once again for your hard work and dedication, we couldn't do it without you.
